Big Mountain Split Skills - Winterstoke 2025

Step up to bigger terrain with confidence. This clinic focuses on how to choose and navigate the essential steps for tackling longer, more complex descents. While the focus is on ski mountaineering and steep terrain, it’s tailored for snowboarders. Learn the skills to conquer bigger objectives, with subtle tweaks that make it smooth and efficient on a split board.

Prerequisites

• Ability to comfortably tour (skin) uphill 1500 meters vertical (4-6 hours)
• Comfortable skiing/riding the equivalent of a double black ski run at a North American resort
• AST 1 or equivalent avalanche training

What you will Learn?

• Risk management for backcountry safety
• Anchor-building techniques for accessing challenging terrain
• Terrain assessment skills for route planning and avalanche considerations
• Basic technical skills for navigating alpine environments

6:1 participant to guide ratio 

This clinic will take place in the Whistler backcountry using the Whistler Blackcomb Lift system for access.  A backcountry pass will be available for purchase for $45.
