AST 1 - Snowshoe Edition - Winterstoke 2025

Want backcountry experiences but prefer snowshoes as your mode of transport? This is your chance to complete the Canadian standard AST 1 course on foot.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion from Avalanche Canada.

Prerequisites

• Ability to comfortably hike uphill 700 meters vertical (2-3 hours).

What you will Learn?

The course will start with a 4 hour online course that can be done at your leisure prior to the course

• Understand the basics of avalanche formation and release
• Identify avalanche terrain
• Pre-trip planning
• Use of the Avaluator decision-making system
• Using public avalanche bulletins
• Companion rescue
