AST 1 - Women led - Winterstoke 2025

Kick-start your backcountry journey with a women-led AST 1 course in the Whistler backcountry. Begin with engaging online learning and then head into the mountains to practice hands-on skills alongside others at your pace.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion from Avalanche Canada.

Prerequisites

• Ability to comfortably ski tour (skin) uphill 700 meters vertical (2-3 hours).
• Comfortable skiing/riding the equivalent of a blue ski run at a North American resort.
• Experience with backcountry ski/snowboard equipment.

What you will Learn?

The course will start with a 4-hour online course that can be done at your leisure prior to the course

• Avalanche. formation
• Pre-trip planning resources
• Using Avaluator to facilitate backcountry decision-making
• Use of backcountry ski/snowboard

8:1 participant to guide ratio 

This clinic will take place in the Whistler backcountry using the Whistler Blackcomb Lift system for access.  A backcountry pass will be available for purchase for $45.
