AST 1 Top Up - Winterstoke 2025

Refresh the skills you learned in your AST 1 course from years ago. Revisit the foundational knowledge needed for safe backcountry travel, including avalanche formation and terrain assessment.

Prerequisites

• Ability to comfortably ski tour (skin) uphill 700 meters vertical (2-3 hours).
  Comfortable skiing/riding the equivalent of a blue ski run at a North American resort. Experience with backcountry ski/snowboard equipment.
• Comfort with ski/snowboard equipment
• Previously completed AST 1 or equivalent course

What you will Learn?

• Understand the basics of avalanche formation and release
• Identify avalanche terrain
• Pre-trip planning
• Use of the Avaluator decision-making system
• Using public avalanche bulletins
• Companion rescue

8:1 participant to guide ratio 

This clinic will take place in the Whistler backcountry using the Whistler Blackcomb Lift system for access.  A backcountry pass will be available for purchase for $45.
