Mt Currie - Wedge Traverse
- Duration: 4 Days (approx.)
- Product code: PYWC89
This brilliant traverse starts at the northern tip of Garibaldi Provincial park with a short heli drop off on the summit of Mount Currie and finishes down the slopes of Blackcomb back to the comfort of Whistler village. Located just north of Whistler, it is a mystery why this area sees such little traffic, because the ski quality, the terrain and the setting along this traverse are quite possibly the best in the Sea to Sky corridor.
Mount Currie dominates the skyline of Pemberton Valley and is famous for the tremendous run down its steep north facing Pencil Couloir. Our spectacular journey, however, opts for the road not taken down Mount Currie's south side onto the forgotten Mystery Glacier and the expansive ice-fields north of Mount Wedge – the highest peak in Garibaldi Provincial Park.
While a descent of Wedge is every skier's dream run, this traverse offers a lifetime of additional skiing possibilities with superb variety and is highly recommended for advanced skiers. Despite covering a modest 27km distance, we love taking three days for this trip to allow us to squeeze every ounce of skiable terrain in this magnificent backcountry skiing paradise.
